Funds are still available for renewable energy systems

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah State Energy Program announced Thursday that funds are still available for renewable energy systems.

Homeowners can reserve tax rebates for solar thermal or photovoltaic energy systems. Businesses can reserve the rebates for small wind or photovoltaic systems.

The program can cover up to 25 percent of the cost of a professionally installed system and may be used with other state, federal and utility incentives, according to a news release from the state energy program.

Since the program launched on April 19, more than 275 applications have been approved and are expected to generate more than 1.8 million kilowatt hours of electricity, according to the release. A typical household consumes 850 kilowatt hours per month.
